How to be a Great Mentor

The role of the mentor can take many forms. The most important aspect of being a mentor is your own self-awareness and integrity. Truly understanding and developing your own awareness is the key to being a great mentor. Starting with your understanding your beliefs will increase your own confidence in your own ability and therefore increase your ability to impart good skills.

The common understanding is that mentoring is about helping another to achieve something that is important to them. It is about giving that help in a way that is empowering; with confidence so that they can move forward to achieve want they want.

The key difference that mentoring has to training, coaching and teaching is that you are working with the individual, imparting your knowledge and skills in an environment in which the person feels encouraged to discuss their needs and circumstances openly and in confidence.
